The day the earth stood still?

OK maybe I am too excited for this movie or been thinking about it too much but I would like to hear some opinions if it is scientifically possible for the earth to not rotate for 24 hours give or take? The day the earth stood still?
1.) It's a movie.2.) Maybe its possible.The day the earth stood still?
ask the storm trooper.
Its a film that I'd like to see if it comes out on TV but I don't want to pay just to see said film
Possible in what sense? It could happen if some theoretical outside rotational force was applied to it by design, but that would take a tremendous amount of force. As far as natural causes I'd say it's pretty much impossible as anything natural that could do it would probably just destroy the Earth anyway.
i was gonna watch it at a friends house but no. and im pretty sure its about aliens and people not knowing what to do not literraly having no motion for 24hrsyeah i cant think of a better way to phrase it sorry
I have yet to see a remake that i liked... so my expectations are low! :?

Lol yea i didnt know this was a remake? I might see in movies or just wait till i catch it on a site if you know what i mean. But I think it is possible and its funny how something is supposed to happen in 2012 but yea I think that another planet or something larger than earth would have to enter the universe's orbital system which would prevent the earth from rotating.
I guess if something large enough with the right momentum collided with the Earth, it could in theory transfer the Earth's angular momentum and cause it to halt. Unfortunately, said object would probably destroy the Earth on impact.

Sure, I will tell you something that is impossible: ''Nothing exists, including someone's observation of this post.''
If the Earth did stay still, we wouldn't be alive to see it, because a huge force/impact(when i mean huge i mean like really really big) would have to hit it in the opposite direction of rotation. idk just don't see it possible at all.

So is this murphys law that in order to stop something in motion you need a collision? The way im looking @ it is something would have to enter orbit that has the same mass as the earth or greater which would slow the earth rotation if not stop it. I hope to never see the day anything is possible but i dont see it happeneing either.
This movie looks totally unrealistic, and the title sucks, too. ''The Day the Earth Stood Still''? More like; ''The Day the Box Office Statistics Stood Still''. Who watches unrealistic movies, anyway? This ''movie'' will be garbage.
In the original (you guys know this is a remake, right?), it referred to all human technology being deactivated for 24 hours as a warning to humans delivered by Klaau
You created an account to troll, and that's the best you can do? :(
No, this isn't a troll account, actually. Why don't you go back to watching your crappy unrealistic Sci-Fi movies. And I'll watch a real man's piece of cinematography, like Brothers in Arms.
Will do; enjoy your manhood, or whatever
xaos, how can you have a 4D marble puzzle game? I can envision 3D, by allowing the marble to go through a cube but how do you include time as a variable (not time-limit of course)?Edit: On topic, I liked the original movie, but I might see this version to witness how they doll it up.
