Inconsistant internet speed

I have cable and my internet speed is always fluctuating. I ran a test on speedtest.net and got 6800kbps download and 90 ping. However, I ran the test a few hours later and got 1900kbps download and 350 ping. It makes it very hard to play games online with my ping often going so high and my download rate slowing up My friend who has the same ISP as me consistantly gets 6800kbps and 90 pingWhat can I do? Nope, that's not normal. Have you tried other speed testing sites? Do you have a wireless router? Perhaps somebody is leeching your net connection.Inconsistant internet speed
I have a wireless router but have wireless security. And if I look at my router and modem lights when my internet is slow and I am not using the computer, they are blinking pretty slowely.And its definetely not a speedtest.net problem. It is very obvious when it is slow. Web pages seem to load slowely and in games like gears of war 2 it takes almost a full second for my shotgun shot to come out.
Unless you mean it's only during online play that it's so slow, then I'm guessing your problem lies elsewhere than your net connection. Try posting this on the PC hardware board, you'll probably have more luck.
tell everyone to get off then
