Many (most) play video games to escape from the crap reality of their daily lives (as they are not intellectually/socially capable enough to deal with life in any other way), but do as many use their semi or full anonymity of their Gamespot account/s to equally live an escapist life in the GS forums (especially OT)? To some, is being a cyber-pseudo-celebrity on GS just as, if not more gratifying than being a presence on WoW, or busting a superior cap in CS?Escapism- Games vs. Gamespot

It's not just diplomacy that you have an issue with, it seems from that statement that you are severely uninformed regarding the lives of people who play video games.
Escapism doesn't always have to carry such negative connotation. I enjoy escapism because I find it relaxing and intellectually stimulating... not because I want to escape from my supposed ''terrible life.''
To say that people who create GS accounts as escapism because they are not capable of dealing with real life is an absurd notion. Its a form of entertainment like any other. Saying that is like saying everyone who left The Dark Knight cant live with the fact that they are not Batman.......

No ****
My life isn't terrible; I play games as a form of entertainment and stress relief. That was kind of rude of you to assume that anyone who plays video games are socially and intellectually inept. :

My life, and the lives of MANY gamers ( you can find quite a few here on GS) is very functional. We interact with people, some of us have girl friends, jobs, good grades... put simply, a LIFE. The thing is, we spend some of our spare time (or even professional time in the case of pro/semi pro gamers) playing video games. It's just another form of leisure - seriously what's wrong with that?
I understand what you are saying, and agree to some extent, but if you think you can say that people substitute videogames and being popular on forums for real life to the people who are doing such things, and expect anything but fierce denials, then i envy your ignorance.
People use the internets for the arguments.

You are trolling.
Just cause people play games doesn't mean they can't face the world. I get out often and am pretty social, and I play video games. In fact video games are a very social activity sometimes, when you can work together, or against eachother.

Who are you to say gaming is unhealthy. I thai box and do bjj for stress relief. Is that good enough for you? Would you rather have evveryone in the forums go and drink themselves stupid every night and ruin their bodies to blow off some steam?

Not at all. This is a serious enquiry.

BLATANT troll, but I'll argue with you nonetheless because I'm bored. There many other people who pursue equally 'useless' forms of leisure, such as sports, drinking, watching sports, modding their cars/computers/whatever etc. What, may I ask, do you engage in instead of video games?
All you do here is give your opinion why don't you go to another site. BTW I'm pretty sure he can be modded for this can someone tell me if I should report this.
I play video games to relax and take the stress away from the pressures of real life, not to escape from my supposed ''terrible life'' or that I am not social. Your assumption as to why poeple play video games is a generalization that is untrue. Anyway, I prefer games to GS as a form of relaxtion, but I find GS as good way to explain my thoughts on different things going on in my life, and my views on different issues.
