Dressing Up as Native Americans and Pilgrims is Demeaning, Now!

Good thing I was racist while I could get it in around 15-20 years ago! :)
Well that uncool... I had fun and surprisingly learned from doing that! :?
Lame.
Good friggin' grief... how exactly is this demeaning? A symbol of two separate cultures celebrating a good harvest and the things they learned from each other? Right...
Some people need to look at the big picture and the themes involved in such plays and then grow some balls.
Good friggin' grief... how exactly is this demeaning? A symbol of two separate cultures celebrating a good harvest and the things they learned from each other? Right...
Some girl(non-native american) got mad at me for calling them Indians when referring to one of their reservations in Wisconsin. She was dumb. I dont think the indians in wisconsin even take offense to that and she gets all huffled and puffled about it...
God damn it, people these days are such whinniy , ugh, pisses me off so **** much :x
What's wrong with the world today?
Ugh...I hate political correctness. :| This is still not as bad as people wanting to get rid of Santa Claus though.
Ugh...I hate political correctness. :| This is still not as bad as people wanting to get rid of Santa Claus though.
Actually that sounds like a good idea, never understood why people came up with that in the first place
Ugh...I hate political correctness. :| This is still not as bad as people wanting to get rid of Santa Claus though.
Why do people want to get rid of Santa Claus? Because ''Santa'' is nonsecular and offensive to non-Christians? Or because it enforces the stereotype that fat people eat cookies and drink milk?People are such idiots.
''It's demeaning,'' Michelle Raheja, the mother of a kindergartner at Condit Elementary School, wrote to her daughter's teacher. ''I'm sure you can appreciate the inappropriateness of asking children to dress up like slaves (and kind slave masters), or Jews (and friendly Nazis), or members of any other racial minority group who has struggled in our nation's history.''I'm going to slap this women right across the face if I ever meet her.

Some take offense to anything but Native American, while some call themselves American Indians and introduce themselves as that. A friend from one of my classes is half-Irish half-Cherokee, but she first told me ''half-Irish half-Indian'' before I asked which tribe, since she clearly didn't look like she was from India.
Good lord what next? The permanent banning of ketchup because it's against someone's religion? That's what's wrong with schools today, they spend so much time trying to please everyone and make them ''safe and sound'' instead of actually teaching something.
And people wonder why America has fallen behind other countries in education.
That is in no way offensive or demeaning... :|
People....
Good friggin' grief... how exactly is this demeaning? A symbol of two separate cultures celebrating a good harvest and the things they learned from each other? Right...
is THAT the history they teach in schools these days?
The kids are not going to care. The fun they can have in the play far outwieghs any idiotic revisionism. This is semantics pure and simple and I don't think anyone really cares about the kids. Being in the play and being part of something is far greater than any stupid think dressing up as native americans and could ever be. The only thing you could complain about it that its not historically accurate but think about it the message under it is one of peace and understanding. Even if we killed the indians in real life the thanksgiving story is one of love and brotherhood. I don't see whats racist about that.
Its nice to know that the parents are fighting against it though.
